Hello, we are Karen and Ian and welcome to Portquin Guest House. The guesthouse has been here since the early 80s and we have been running it since 2001. We have lived in the Village since 1987 and love the rural surroundings with the facilities of Swindon nearby. We both work hard for the Community and get as much out of life here as we can.

The grounds are 3 ½ acres in total, and you can wander around it at your leisure. The original cottage was built on the plot in 1835 and it has variously been a piggery, a smallholding and a market garden. It was extended as it is today in the late 70s. It's original owner then used the massive kitchen/dining/lounge for musical 'soirees' - her son was an excellent pianist. You will find horses, sheep and fish among the other residents of the place. There are patios where you can sit peacefully and drink in the views. You can listen to the screech of the buzzards lazily circling overhead and watch the deer in the early morning wandering across the fields. You can pick apples to your hearts content in the autumn.

We are 'baby boomers' and you will catch us listening to Radio 2 and Classic FM in the mornings. The kitchen/dining room is open plan so you can tell when we burn the toast and drop the sausages! Karen's a Lancashire lass and I'm a Devon 'buy' but apart from short visits we haven't returned there for a long time, living in far-flung places such as Newcastle, Wales and Gloucestershire.

We like to treat our visitors as house guests and have a policy of 'ask and we will do our best to help...'. The rooms are comfortable and individually furnished and decorated with personal touches. Breakfasts are like family meal times (without the arguments) with you setting the tone and pace. We offer a large range of breakfast foods from kippers to black pudding with healthy options too, and will do our best to give you what you want to start you on your way.

Our watchwords are Relaxation, Hospitality and Value and we offer you the high standards that we would expect.

We hope you enjoy your stay with us, see you soon.
